Kedron Brook Vision – an opportunity for excellent active transport infrastructure.

Kedron Brook Vision – an opportunity for excellent active transport infrastructure.

Brisbane City Council have opened submissions for a 20-year plan to revitalise the Kedron Brook catchment. Their strategy document fails to provide any active transport plan for this important corridor, suitable for the needs of all users now and well into the future.

Council state:

“The Draft Vision sets a long-term direction for the catchment to be a leading lifestyle and recreation corridor with a healthier, more resilient waterway. Kedron Brook will continue to be one of Brisbane’s great outdoor spaces, a place where people can walk, ride, play sport, connect with nature and enjoy their local community in a flood-resilient landscape.”

Rather than just a parks and recreation focus, we need council to adopt a broader vision which includes safe, connected and convenient active transport integrated into the vision for this important active transport route.

The Brisbane North BUG would like to see the redevelopment consider the needs of all active transport users with dedicated separate cycling infrastructure since the Kedron Brook corridor is a significant commuter route for cyclists.

  • Safe separation for different activities – commuting (through route), walking and jogging.
  • Connected to shopping, schools, entertainment and sports near the path with safe extended connections to Brisbane River, CBD, Chermside, Downfall and Cabbage Tree creeks, etc.
  • Convenient connections with ease of access and safe direct connection to other parts of Brisbane’s cycling network. What we don’t want are lengthy meandering connections that inconvenience commuters or those who may simply want to ride to the shops or go for a ride with the kids.

Ideally functional lighting should be installed along the length of the path for everyone’s safety.

Our approach:

Next steps:

Step 1

Please read the council page here: https://yoursay.brisbane.qld.gov.au/kedron-brook-vision-and-master-plan

Read both the Kedron Brook Revitalisation Draft Vision and Summary documents.

With the perspective of adding active transport to the conversation, and particularly the points raised above, please complete the online survey before September 6 2026.

In your own words, this should be the key theme of responses when you do the survey.

“A strategy to provide Safe, Connected and Convenient active transport infrastructure is required. This means a roadmap for providing separated paths, adequate lighting for everyone’s safety, and connections that make sense.”

Step 2

Write to one or all of the councillors on the list below. Express your concerns and in your own words ensure you include the following:

“A strategy to provide Safe, Connected and Convenient active transport infrastructure is required. This means a roadmap for providing separated paths, adequate lighting for everyone’s safety, and connections that make sense.”

This will be actioned by the councillor to the extent of forwarding it to the right place, most likely the project team.

The councillors along the catchment are:

Marchant Ward: Represented by Danita Parry, covering suburbs like Stafford, Kedron, Gordon Park, and Windsor.
marchant.ward@bcc.qld.gov.au
McDowall Ward: Represented by Tracy Davis, covering areas like Everton Park near the upper sections of the brook.
mcdowall.ward@bcc.qld.gov.au
Northgate Ward: Represented by Adam Allan, covering northern sections including Wavell Heights and parts of Kedron near the lower-middle reaches.
northgate.ward@bcc.qld.gov.au
Enoggera Ward: Represented by Andrew Wines, covering Enoggera and Wilston near the western and southern parklands of the brook.
enoggera.ward@bcc.qld.gov.au

This is a very good opportunity to shape the active transport strategy on this corridor. Please do take the time to have your say.
