There’s a great bike route almost all the way from Ferny Grove train station to Samford, along the old Dayboro rail line. And now there’s a chance to finish the final few hundred metres to connect the rail trail with the village, completing a job that was abandoned almost a decade ago.
The opportunity comes as the rural property that has been an obstacle to finishing the rail trail is up for sale. And we’re calling on the state government or Moreton Bay city council to buy the land – which includes a section of the old rail route – and complete the bikeway.
If you are interested in seeing this important link finished, please e-mail the Department of Transport and Main Roads, at Cycling_Infrastructure_Program@tmr.gov.au, and local councillor Darren Grimwade, at Darren.Grimwade@moretonbay.qld.gov.au. It’s also worth contacting the Queensland transport minister, Bart Mellish, at transportandmainroads@ministerial.qld.gov.au.
Anyone who has tried to cycle or scoot to Samford knows how disappointing it is to get most of the way there, only to have to finish the route via a hilly detour, including a dangerous narrow road with heavy traffic. So let’s get that fixed.
